The Hermitage is here!!!

For you Russophiles out there who automatically assume that I mean the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, I'm afraid that I must disappoint you; this post has nothing whatsoever to do with Russia. Think about it, what better name for the home of someone who has dedicated her life to hermiting than The Hermitage? Yes my friends, it's official: I am now the proud owner of a two-bedroom house in Waycross, Georgia. Well, I suppose in actuality, my mom now owns two homes in Waycross, and I owe her $27,500. Yes, you read that correctly: $27,500. Hee hee! (Eat your heart out, San Diego!) As much as I love being in Russia, I am currently *really* looking forward to going home and working on my house. (Especially since I'll only be in Waycross for one month before I head off to Korea.) Just thought I'd share :-) If you look closely, you might notice that the shutters have the letter "J" painted on them. No, we didn't do this; it came that way!

Congratulations! That's wonderful. What are you going to do with it while you are away for a year? With houses costing 27K, I can not imagine that there is a big rental market in Waycross. I love the house; it looks like a post card! Does it need a lot of repairs? From when I can tell, it seems like it is in good shape.

Wow! Looks like a nice house for 27.5K. Congratulations

Well, it needs some work on the roof (mom's contractor estimated that the repairs would cost $3000, so the owner dropped the price from $30,000 to $27,500 and threw in a free refrigerator), and it needs some cosmetic work (mainley the wood paneling that is in several rooms that has got to go!). I also think that the bathroom needs cosmetic work as well. I think it'll pretty much be mom's storage shed while I'm gone, although she has mentioned that if she can find someone reliable to rent it, she'll rent it out.

Very quaint really - looks like it has a garage for WD40.

Congratulations, Jane. How exciting! Hopefully you'll keep the J's on the shutters. :) And since it's been dubbed "The Hermitage", perhaps you should consider installing malachite pillars...? Just a suggestion.

very, very envious.
we've spent more than that on rent since we've been here.

WD40 will definitely be present in this house...

...although I don't think malachite can be purchased in Waycross.

For those of you in San Diego..... MOVE TO WAYX!! :-)
