Today we went on an excursion with members of local tourism agencies to Russian National Park Meshera (no website!). They had invited us along because they had extra space in their group and thought the Americans might enjoy it. Unfortunately, the excursion was designed for tourism professionals, and instead of showing us the park, they showed us the park's visitors' center, some hotels, a closed giftshop, and two museums. This wasn't entirely interesting. However, one of the museums was interesting. It was a replica of an old, traditional Russian homestead, where they also fed us traditional fish soup, pirogi, and vodka, and that also had a sad-looking bear in a cage. I would like to go back and actually see the park. It apparently has a lot of swampland, forests, fields, rivers, and the like... although in the winter, these things all look pretty similar under a blanket of snow. And from the window of your tour bus.
By which I mean -10C or something.
